Raymond LaBarge, Northampton city councilor

NORTHAMPTON - Raymond W. "Ish" LaBarge, 87, of 24 Water St., passed away Saturday at the Calvin Coolidge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Born in Northampton Feb. 24, 1922, he was the son of the late Oscar and Marie (Thouin) Labarge.

He was educated in Northampton schools and was a graduate of Smith Vocational High School.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, a recipient of the Purple Heart.

He worked at the VA Medical Center in Leeds for 30 years, retiring in 1975.

Ray was very active in politics, serving as Ward 7 city councilor for many years. He was a life member of the Northampton Elks Lodge #997, and was a member of the American Legion Post 236 in Haydenville.

He was the husband of the late Marion (Broadhurst) LaBarge. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Day, and her husband, Leonard, of Easthampton; three sons, Leslie LaBarge, Larry LaBarge and Leigh LaBarge; his brother, Norman LaBarge; his sisters, Lorena Goeble and Anita Kouniotis; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ray's funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of the Hill Parish at St. Mary's Church in Haydenville at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Ray's family asks that memorial donations be made to Leeds School, Florence Street, Leeds, 01053.
